A 78-card deck

Tarot uses 56 suit cards, 21 trumps and the Fool. The 1 and 21 of trumps and the Fool are the three oudlers.

A contract to fulfil

Bidding determines the taker and contract. The taker faces the defence, with special rules for five players. How the dog is used depends on the contract.

Oudlers count

You need 56 points with no oudler, 51 with one, 41 with two and 36 with three. Follow suit, then trump or overtrump as your hand requires.

This guide covers the basics. Variants and table settings may change some rules.
