In suit games and Grand, Jacks are the highest trumps in this order. Null uses a different ranking.

Three players and a skat

Skat is played by three people with 32 cards. Each receives ten; the remaining two form the skat.

Win the bidding

Bidding determines the declarer, who plays alone against the other two. The contract can be a suit game, Grand or Null.

Understand the contract

In suit games and Grand, Jacks are trumps. The declarer normally needs at least 61 card points. In Null, the aim is to take no tricks.

This guide covers the basics. Variants and table settings may change some rules.
