Belote, made for partners.
Four ways to stand out.
Belote rules.
In trump, the Jack and 9 lead.
Hearts as trump, from strongest to weakest.

Outside trump, Ace then 10.
The same order applies to the other three suits.

The table
Four players form two teams of two. Partners sit opposite each other. The deck has 32 cards, from 7 to Ace.
Choose trump
Each player first receives five cards. One card is turned up: in the first round, its suit may be chosen as trump. If everyone passes, a second round allows another suit. The deal is then completed to eight cards per player.
Play the tricks
Follow suit if you can. Otherwise, trump if an opponent is winning; if your partner is winning, you may discard. Overtrump whenever possible and required.
Count the points
Trump: Jack 20, 9 14, Ace 11, 10 10, King 4, Queen 3, 8 and 7 zero. Other suits: Ace 11, 10 10, King 4, Queen 3, Jack 2, the rest zero. The last trick is worth 10 points.
Belote and rebelote
Holding the trump King and Queen lets you announce belote and then rebelote as you play them, for 20 points. Contract and meld rules depend on the variant.
This guide covers the basics. Variants and table settings may change some rules.
